Aaron Uresti and Sandra Martinez of Environmental Resource Services, attended the Healthy Green Schools and Colleges program at the ISSA North American show in Las Vegas.
The Healthy Green Schools colleges program is a two-day educational seminar (hosted by The Healthy Schools Campaign) at the trade show where facility managers working in educational facilities are provided with the tools needed to implement healthy, successful and effective green cleaning programs at their institution.
Aaron Uresti, Facilities Services Assistant Director, is a member of the steering committee and was heavily involved in the planning and preparation of the seminar. He participated in a panel presentation on "Green Cleaning as Part of a Sustainability Plan". In the presentation, he was able to share the successes of our custodial & housekeeping department, the current sustainability initiatives that we are working on and how this contributes to UCR's overall sustainability plan:
- Zero wast through a centralized collection system.
- Standardizing work assignments to protect the health and safety of our workforce.
- Sustainable purchasing and the use of green certified chemicals and supplies: 90% of what we purchase and use in cleaning chemicals, paper supplies, trash liners and hand soap meets criteria for human health, reduce environmental impact and excellent performance.
