UCR Building and Facilities Now Under One Roof

Riverside, Ca –

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) – Effective Feb. 1, 2018, all facilities and capital related activities fall under the purview of UC Riverside’s CFO and Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget. The reorganization is the culmination of a years-long process to meet the needs of UCR’s growth as a campus and coincides with the arrival of UCR’s new CFO and Vice Chancellor Planning and Budget Gerry Bomotti. UCR Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox announced the move via a campuswide email on Jan. 19.

For many years, responsibility for campus capital improvement and facilities and maintenance activities resided with the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business Operations. Four years ago, the finance and business functions were split, with the Offices of Financial Planning & Analysis, Capital Planning, and Real Estate Services moved to the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget. At the same time, Auxiliary Services, Physical Plant, and Design and Construction (now Architects & Engineers) moved to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services.

Over the ensuing years, UCR restructured its capital financing program, merged Physical Plant with the custodial, facilities, and groundskeeping functions of Housing, Dining, and Residential Services (now Facilities Services), and revamped a host of supporting processes in all areas.

In Dec. 2016, Chancellor Wilcox announced he was moving responsibility for the Offices of Architects & Engineers and Facilities Services to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development as part of a special focus on the teaching and research needs related to capital planning and facilities. Those duties will now fall to the CFO and Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget.

In his message to the campus community announcing the move, Chancellor Wilcox wrote, “This will bring greater alignment to our capital needs and promote collaboration among the existing divisions, particularly as we embark on several major projects such as the opening of MRB 1, planning and design for the Student Success Center and UCR Health Outpatient Pavilion, and new student housing in Lot 22 and the North District.”

In December, Wilcox announced Gerry Bomotti’s appointment. He began his tenure at UCR on Feb. 1. Bomotti was most recently senior vice president for finance and business at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a position he held since September 2004.

Bomotti comes to UCR at a time of rapid growth. Since 2013, enrollment has increased by nearly 2,000 students. Over that same time, UCR has added or renovated more than 1 million square feet of space on campus. Another $1 billion in construction is planned between now and 2021.
