Tree Trimming

One of the first landscape features apparent to the observer upon entering the campus are the many large and unusual trees forming the cooling canopy that we all enjoy. There are well over 6,000 trees on campus, many of which are mature specimens. The species represent examples from around the world, reflecting the diverse nature of both campus research mission and campus population.

The campus tree trimmer is a certified arborist with the International Society of Arborists and is highly skilled. He always prunes in a manner which highlights the natural characteristics of the specimens and the intent of the landscape architect, while keeping safety and the campus community in mind.

We use the products derived from campus tree trimming operations. The wood is cut into fireplace lengths and either used by campus departments and organizations or sold via Equipment Management to individuals as surplus. Trimmings are chipped and used in planters around campus. This helps to retain water and reduce weed growth, while adding beauty to our environment. (Normally associated with a rich forest floor.)
